Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar, a British American musician and sitarist is best known for her music. She was among the youngest and first female to win a British House of Commons Shield she has had nine Grammy Awards nominations and was the first musician of Indian origin to play live in concert and act as a host at the ceremony. Anoushka is the new star on the rise in Indian sitar. She is a student and daughter to Ravi Shankar. She spent her childhood bouncing around from London and New Delhi. When she was only 13, her first show at New Delhi took place. She graduated in 1999 from her high school education at Encinitas CA. While she's still young Anouskha is a star in her performing and recording. For a long time she has been performing regularly with her father. In 1998, she released her debut self-titled album Anourag. In 2002, she released her Grammy nominated album Live at Carnegie Hall. Her career on stage is extensive for she has appeared in all of the world's major venues. Anoushka Shakar's work is not only limited to music. Bapi: The Love of My Live is her 2002 novel, and was a tribute Ravi Shankar. Also, in a number of films. In 2003, she was in the movie Dance Like a Man where she is an aspiring Bharat Natyam dancer. Anoushka's career is still developing and she will continue to do many great things in the future. Anoushka Shakar, who was born in England was a major part of her life between London Delhi. After moving to California she completed high school. She began studying music when she was nine years old and performed on the sitar for the 75th anniversary of her father's birth in Delhi just four years after. Anoushka was able to gain a great deal of experience by touring around the globe together with her dad. She performed in Carnegie Hall in her teenage years, and recorded at George Harrison's WOMAD Festival. The youngest female to be awarded the House of Commons Shield, presented by British Parliament as recognition of her musical talent and artistic ability within music and the Asian Arts.
